Sooooo……I THOUGHT the first day of Spring was on March 21st…..

…..but I guess I was wrong. Cause I woke up this morning to about 6 inches of snow. Yep, thaaaaaaaat’s right. You read it correctly!! Six inches of snow. Ain’t gonna be no tillin’ today. Or planting. Or very much of anything.

But, it’s kind of a good thing anyway. Because I got to experience some snow, which is rather rare in Oregon, at least in these quantities. And I shoveled snow for pretty much the first time ever. And it was fun. I like looking out at the smooth whiteness that blankets the countryside, but at the same time Nate (the farmer) and I are getting rather impatient to get outside and start planting. Apparently this is really unusual for Indiana and he is already about 2 weeks behind in planting outside. We have trays and trays of starts that are ready to go outside!….but the outside is not ready for them yet.

yeah....all that white stuff you see? That's spring....just doesn't look like it.

On a nice note, I’m including a couple pictures of my seeds!!! Or rather what my seeds have become. 🙂 The folks here agreed to let me plant a bit of ground in my own stuff so that is what I am doing. The sprouts shown are of my first tray, the second tray is mostly tomatoes and peppers and they are juuuust starting to sprout!! (Yes, yes, I know. I don’t like tomatoes OR peppers. But I like growing them. And who knows? Maybe I’ll be able to sell some of them at market this summer.

hopefully, all the seeds in these beautiful little packets are going to go into the ground sometime this year!

Unfortunately, Nate here has been giving me a rough time on not liking tomatoes or spaghetti.  🙂 But I’m used to it. 🙂

  1. Thank you for all the wonderful pictures! We are laughing about all that snow! Did you know that Puxatany Phil (groundhog) is being sued for misleading you all back east there? Ha Ha

  2. Make a snowman!!! Seriously! 🙂 That’s a project on my bucket list: to make a for-real snowman… Complete with a carrot nose. Never made one before. And I want to have a snowball fight someday. And make a snow fort. LOL.

That ain’t a half bad looking seed collection there either… Hehe.

  3. Nice post and nice quilt on the bed. Hope your jicama(!) does grow. 🙂
